CSPV CALENDAR for 2003 and 2004

July, 2004 - Our annual picnic will be held in a new location this year, to be announced. Mrs. Margaret White so graciously hosted us these many years, and we thank her!

MAY 9, 2004 - Our May meeting will be held on Sunday May 9th in the classroom at the Arboretum. A Board Meeting will be held at 1:30PM sharp (in the kitchen-dining area at the end of the hall in the basement) by our President, Harry Dewey, to make a few announcements and appoint some committees. We would like to adjourn as soon after 2 PM as possible so that Kevin Conrad can conduct our tour of the Herbarium upstairs.

DECEMBER 1, 2003 through early April 2004 - The Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) are collecting used gardening and horticultural books to sell at their Spring Plant Sale and Auction in April. Materials may be dropped off on Wednesdays at Arbor House at the Arboreturm c/o Rindy O'Brien in the FONA office. Or they may be dropped off in Georgetown by calling Mary Gene Myers at 202-333-1198 and arranging receipt. Pick up is also available, again arranged by calling Mary Myers. Mary is Co-chair of the 2004 FONA Garden sale. Please leave your name and contact information and you will receive a receipt for tax deduction.
- DECEMBER 14, 2003 - Holiday Meeting (Sunday) at 1:00 pm at BROOKSIDE GARDENS in Wheaton,
MD. Our Holiday Party will include a Light Lunch coordinated by Betsy Miller. and a musical program coordi-nated
by Kathleen Graham and Bill Miller. There will also be a show of pictures taken by the Fairchilds from
some of our shows, sales, etc. of past years. Please start thinking about our officers' elections in March and about
search committee embership. Please consider serving as a guide to our society in a position of responsibility, to
learn and to coordinate our growth and mission. Please bring Christmas goodies and a gift for the exchange and
your own pictures if you'd like to share them. Deadline for Bennett Creek Order forms. And please call Betsy
Miller to let her know what food you can bring-- 703-354-7184.
- FEBRUARY 8, 2004 - Meeting (Sunday) at the U.S. National Arboretum at 1:30 PM. Discussion of two
upcoming Shows and Sales. Bill Miller will talk about the Arboretum Show in April and give out Entry Cards.
Kitty and Bill Ackerman will talk about the Brookside show and sale on the weekend of March 13th and 14th.
Development of a slate for the election of new officers will be a major point of business. Please be prepared to
make nominations and to volunteer if you are interested in serving in a position. Signup sheets for volunteers to
assist at other shows and sales. Door prizes, Minishow and refreshments. Please call Betsy Miller to coordinate
refreshments at 703-354-7184.
- MARCH 5th, 2004 (Friday) - DELIVERY OF BENNETT CREEK PLANT ORDER to Stadlers Nursery in
Laytonsville, MD. If this date holds, members may pick up their orders on Saturday, March 6th from 10 to 3.
This will give the committee time to sort the plants into groups for each member, hopefully to relieve some of the
confusion of former years. We will let those who ordered plants know of any change in schedule.
- MARCH 13 & 14, 2004 - Brookside Gardens Camellia Show & Sale
- Setup on Friday the 12th, 1-3PM.
- Saturday, March 13th - Show and sale open 10AM to 5 PM (flower setup 8:00 AM, CSPV meeting at Noon.)
- Sunday, March 14th - Show and sale open 10 AM to 4:00PM.
We will be ordering small plants from Chesser Nursery for selling at this Brookside Sale.
- MARCH 13, 2004 - Lunch Meeting (Saturday) NOON (this brief meeting will be held at Brookside, in con-junction
with our show that weekend). We will be voting on new officers. There will be signup sheets for volun-teers
to assist at other shows and sales. Demos on Air Layering, and preparing blooms for the show as the day pro-gresses.
Bring a sandwich, Kitty will bring cookies and have coffee and tea available.
- APRIL 10-11, 2004 - The Camellia Society of the Potomac Valley's Annual Spring Camellia Show at the U.S.
National Arboretum, held according to the regulations of the American Camellia Society. New officers will be
announced. Lunch will be served to those working to put on the show on Saturday. Please call Betsy Miller to
help with lunch, 703-354-7184.
- Setup on Friday the 9th - 1:30 to 3 PM.
- Saturday - 10th - 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Entries in by 10:45AM. Open to public from 1 pm until 5 pm.
- Sunday - 11th - Open to public from 1 to 4:30 PM
- APRIL 23 & 24, 2004 - Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) Plant Sale and Auction at the U.S.
National Arboretum, New York Ave., Washington, DC --CSPV volunteers are needed.
Friday the 23rd, 1 PM - 7 PM for FONA members only, setup noon to 1 PM
Saturday the 24th, 10 AM - 5 PM for the public
- ANNUAL JULY CSPV PICNIC - Date & place to be later determined
